Taking down a rotten Conifer from a garden boundary in Gosfield

Amerio Forestry Contracts was appointed to carry out a controlled tree felling operation on private land in Gosfield. The site contained several mature and semi-mature trees that had become unsafe due to structural defects, age-related decline, and overcrowding. The client’s priority was to reduce risk to surrounding land while maintaining the overall health and balance of the remaining trees.
The project required careful planning due to proximity to boundaries and the presence of retained trees that needed to be protected throughout operations.

A full arboricultural site assessment was undertaken prior to works commencing. This included visual tree inspections, identification of structural weaknesses, and evaluation of root plates and crown condition. Several trees were confirmed as poor-quality or hazardous specimens, while others were identified for retention.
Some trees on site were subject to Tree Preservation Orders (TPOs). Amerio Forestry Contracts managed the full TPO application process, liaising with the local authority to secure consent and ensure all works were compliant with planning regulations.
Tree felling was carried out using controlled sectional dismantling techniques where required, ensuring safe removal in restricted areas. Larger trees were dismantled in sections using climbing methods and rigging systems to manage falling timber and prevent damage to surrounding vegetation and structures.
Chainsaw operations were undertaken by qualified operatives, following industry best practice and site-specific risk assessments. Particular care was taken to protect retained trees, with exclusion zones established and ground protection measures in place where necessary.
Felled timber was processed on site, with usable material extracted for firewood. Brash and smaller material were chipped and removed, leaving the site clear and tidy on completion.

Safety was a key focus throughout the project. All works were carried out under strict method statements, with ongoing site monitoring to adapt operations as conditions changed. Wildlife checks were completed prior to felling, and work was phased to minimise disturbance.
Where appropriate, selected stumps were left at a safe height to provide habitat value, supporting fungi, invertebrates, and micro-ecosystems. This approach ensured that necessary tree removal did not come at the expense of wider ecological benefit.
Safety was a key focus throughout the project. All works were carried out under strict method statements, with ongoing site monitoring to adapt operations as conditions changed.
The completed works significantly improved site safety while enhancing the long-term health of the remaining trees. By removing defective and overcrowded specimens, retained trees now benefit from reduced competition, improved light levels, and better crown development.
The site is now safer, more open, and easier to manage, with a clear structure that supports ongoing land use and future woodland or landscape management.
This project highlights Amerio Forestry Contracts’ expertise in delivering precise, compliant tree felling operations in sensitive environments. Through careful planning, skilled arboricultural techniques, and a considered approach to environmental responsibility, the team delivered a successful outcome that balanced safety, practicality, and long-term land health.
